- Joycecould always tell a "great" story and it usually involved someone she
knew of course. Over Joyce's 90+ years, she collected
many, many newspaper clippings, marked the dates and filed them in
plastic sleeve protectors in numerous binders.
- Her
passion was first and foremost her "FAMILY" ...her WHOLE family
from parents, siblings, husband, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
sisters in laws, brother in laws, friends, neighbours
- a
second passion was being an "archivist". She loved to collect
data on family research ....Joyce organized the one and only BENISON-HARRIS
FAMILY REUNION on home roots in Lachine in 1984. As a keepsake, she
researched and compiled 2 family history books.
- Project
Joyce is an attempt to "put online" those newspaper clippings that she so
dearly thought were of interest ...eg. first heart transplant patient in
Montreal was John Parkinson, my grandmother's homegrown tomato that looked like
a pin cushion, Miss Canada that was our long-time neighbour in Ottawa, my Uncle
Ole who made violins, numerous references to the different priests
at Resurrection of our Lord Catholic Church etc etc ....
- For those with Montreal roots, you are sure to enjoy the sketches/articles by John Collins and Edgar Collard. These two men attempted to summarize the early years of Montreal living by sketcking and writing it in weekly newspaper ...eg. "Jolly Days on the Trolley"
- My
mother, Joyce, entrusted me with her valuable collection, and I promised her I
would take care of it .....and so, I give you the joy of surfing through the
pages of time ...you just never know what you might find !!!!
- If i were granted 3 wishes for Project JOYCE, they would be:
- (1) you'll not only return yourself but recommend a friend to look here
- (2) learn something you didn't know before coming to Project Joyce and
- (3) lastly, that my Mom, Joyce, would be happy her treasured collection is available for all to search through
following are examples of what you might find in each of these decades
